January 29, 2011 This year
the Great American Motorcycle Show did not fall on a ride weekend, but
we made an event out of it anyway. Kind of an extra credit event.
The morning started with breakfast at Southern Skillet
...or it was planned to start there. Upon arrival at the restaurant we
discovered that it was closed temporarily. So, we did what we have
become pretty good at lately and regrouped and headed up the road to
IHOP.
After a nice warm breakfast we made our way over to
the motorcycle show. Doug & Teresa lead in their truck followed by
Preston & Stephanie in their car followed by our two brave riders on
bikes, Ed and Don. Maria and I brought up the rear in out truck.
Upon arriving at the show we parked, paid our
admission and began our browsing. The show this year seemed a little
more organized and utilized than last year. The trade center was pretty
much filled with vendors. It seemed the vendors were a little more
upscale than in years past too.
At noon we all assembled at Lupita's over on Beaver
Ruin for a multi-chapter lunch. We had about 40 people show up to break
bread...er tortilla's ....together. There were members from Atlanta,
Fayetteville and Braselton. We had a 50/25/25 raffle and also gave away
two free registrations for the Andersonville event.
Once the luncheon was over, most everyone went back to
the show to finish their perusal of the vendors there. Although with the
sun out and the air a comfortable 65 degrees, many chose to go riding.
Many of those returning to the show found items to purchase, from
jewelry to clothing to bike accessories.
I think everyone that attended enjoyed themselves.
