Today was the last "real ride" of the year.
The remaining rides are all short due to the cooler weather and
lack of daylight hours. We barely squeezed this one in to the
daylight hours.
We started out a little later to let it warm
up some. After all it is the middle of November. The morning
ride to AMW was very cool and the skies were overcast. Some
riders even reported a little drizzle on the way. The weather
all week had been gorgeous...sunny and in the 70's during the
day. Today however the forecast was partly cloudy and high of
68. Well, it didn't turn out quite like that.
When we left the sky was mostly cloudy with
the sun breaking through every now and then with the promise of
brighter things to come. However, the further we rode the
cloudier it became and the cloudier it got the cooler it got. I
think the high was only about 61 or 62 at best. We took GA 9 up
to Dawsonville then turned off onto GA 53. From there it was GA
183 and then GA52 headed to Chatsworth. Our normal stop for our
break along this route had closed up so we had to head on down
the road a piece before getting a potty break. We kept the break
short as we were only about 30 minutes from our destination of
Edna's. Beside the cooling temps going over the mountain we ran
into a very light misty rain at the higher elevations and as we
came down the other side into Chatsworth.
I must say the color in the tree on the
Chatsworth side was spectacular. The colors were rich and deep
yellows, oranges and reds. The trees were actually still fairly
full as well. It was a beautiful ride. Well worth the effort.
Arriving in Chatsworth and turning onto US411
it was only a small leap to Edna's. The only problem was that we
found out upon our arrival that Edna's was now closed on Sundays.
With only a short pause in the parking lot and a quick phone
call we headed to downtown
where Rick Campbell had found a nice Mexican restaurant. So we had Mexican for
lunch.
The food was good. The price was good. The
service was okay. Above all it was warm and dry. It gave us a
chance to socialize a bit. After our meal we held a short
meeting discussing various items such as the next ride date and
the upcoming Christmas party. However the main subject was
voting in our new members. SO WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST
MEMBERS.....ED LYBROOK AND DON HAUGER.
With lunch and business done everyone pretty
much made a beeline for their house. The skies were still very
grey and threatening a real rain and cooler temps.
All in all it was a great day. It was a good
ride, we hade good food and added members into the
chapter. It doesn't get any more satisfying than that.
