June 26-27, 2010
Even with predictions of great weather and a chance to get
away for a weekend, the turnout for this trip was a little low.
Of course sometimes other things just seem to come up. Family,
illness, time...etc.
We still had a good group make the ride up to Cherokee. We
took our usual route, up 400 accross 306 to I-985 then up 441.
The ride was good. The weather wasn't bad at all. It was a
little on the warm side most of the time, but not too hot. We
made good time. Took a short break almost halfway up. Before we
knew it we were there. Arriving about lunch time, our first stop
was our regular restaurant for lunch. I think it had changed
names again, but it was the same food on the buffet. By the time
we finished eating it was late enough to head over to the hotel
and check in.
Good thing we did. As soon as we arrived and good little rain
pocket opened up and dropped some heavy rain for about a half
hour. We just hung around the hotel and settled in. As soon as
it appeared, it was gone. We headed "downtown" to do a little
shopping. We visited a lot of stores, bought some things here
and there. Had a little fudge and a cold drink. Then, did some
more shopping.
Around sevenish, we decided it was time for a meal. We asked
around and were pointed to a local restaurant called Paul's. We
arrive, parked and were shortly seated. Sitting out on the porch
to eat was nice. The weather had cooled and it was good to be
outside. In short order we had cool drinks and some appetizers.
The meal was another story. It took quite a while to get our
food to us, but we were in no hurry. Most of the food was good.
I heard the hamburgers were outasight. I had fried fish. It was
good, but not piping hot. Some of the other dishes were just
okay too. Overall it was a good meal.
From there we headed back to the hotel for the night.
Sunday morning a few of us slept in a little and others rose
early, had a little breakfast and headed home. The late risers
headed over to the local breakfast restaurant and filled up
there before doing some more shopping.
With afternoon approaching the remaining crew decided to head
on home. As we left the skies had a bit of a sinister look to
them. Between Cherokee and home, we got drizzled on very lightly
a couple time. A lot of the time we came through areas where it
had just rained. Most of the time it looked like rain to the
right or the left (sometime both). Our timing was good and we
basically made it home without getting donning rainsuits or
getting wet.
It was a good weekend. Just a little too short. Cherokee is a
great place and we just needed a little more time there to chill
out.
