February 8, 2009 For the
first time this year, we got good weather on our ride date. It was
unseasonably warm all weekend with highs in the mid to high sixties.
Sunday was the cooler of the two days due to a little cloud cover, but
it was still a great day for riding.
Turnout for the ride was very good. We had 12 bikes
ride over from Atlanta Motor World to the Marietta Diner. On those
twelve bikes were sixteen members. Another five members met us at the
diner, giving us a total of 21 people for the event. The ride over felt
good after too long on four wheels. We took 120 across. Expecting a good
bit of traffic and too many traffic lights, it ended up being very
relaxing with very little traffic and a minimum of red light. With that
many bikes, it is pretty normal for us to get broken up at lights, but
thanks to an alert navigator on the lead bike watching for the "blinking
men" we made the entire trip with the group intact.
Food at the diner was unreal. The menu had a little of
everything on it and when the food came out, it was very large portions.
To top it off....it was delicious. I don't think anyone left hungry.
After ordering and while waiting on the food, we finished up the charter
signing. We ended up with 13 signatures plus officers for a total of 20
signatures. Also, George Tacquet agreed to be our new secretary.
After the feast we met out in the parking lot. With
everyone living in different directions we said goodbyes to most as then
headed towards home. Some of us opted to take a less direct way home and
headed up US41 to US411. US 411 led to GA 53 which took us to GA 400.
Along the route different riders would drop off as we neared their home.
As the sun sank below the horizon the temperature sank with it.
It had been a great day for a ride...so we rode. It is
always good to share lunch with friends...so we ate. It was such a good
day for a ride....we rode some more. In the end it was a much needed day
of fellowship and the open road. It was very encouraging to have such a
great turnout too. If you weren't able to be there, that's fine...just
try to make the next one. If you were there, thanks for being there. I
hope you rewarded with a good time.
Today reminded us that spring is just around the
corner. The days will get warmer and longer and the riding will get
better. I'm sure we will have some more cold days and probably some wet
ones as well. Don't let that keep you away. The one thing that never
changes with the weather is the good times we have and the memories we
make.
