Date:  November 9, 2008

November is here and along with it the cold morning fall air. Jackets, chaps, long sleeves, layers, long johns, gloves, face masks....I think all were in use on arrival at AMW. Leaving home at 9:00 the temp was barely 40 degrees. Add the wind chill of 60mph on the bike and it was a little cool.

The cool weather may have kept some away, leaving us with a smaller group. It was worth the effort though. We took a  "backroads" route down to Jackson. It is only about 80 miles but managed to take us about two and a half hours to get there. We made a stop about half way for restrooms and drink, then another short stop a little later to let Chuck and Cindy join up with us. From there it was on to Rio Vista.

By arrival, the sun was out, the sky was blue with some nice white fluffy clouds. The high reached the low sixties for the day. When we arrived, many riders had removed some of the layers and were down to a jacket and maybe gloves. It was really a beautiful day for riding.

Rio Vista was good. Church services must have run over and the place was not very crowded. In fact, it never did get crowded, but there were several that came in after us. They offered a buffet or a number of items from the menu. We did a little of both. The buffet offered fried chicken, meat loaf, pot pie, some great veggies, and a peach cobbler. Off the menu was AYCE catfish, livers, shrimp and more. The food was very good, but not spectacular. Just good southern cooking.

With time dragging on and the day running short on daylight, we headed out afterwards and headed home. Chuck and Cindy led us on a nice ride before pointing us in the direction of the north side. After leaving the Pierces we made a couple stops, one for gas and another, just because. The shortened daylight hours due to the time change was catching up with us and as the sun disappeared so did the warmth.

Everyone should have arrived home before dark, but some just barely.

It was another great day with the Star Family. We got to ride, share good times and good food.
