February 23, 2008 The
weather forecast was so promising! When the kickstands went up it was
supposed to be in the mid 40's and by the time they went down again
- in the 50's. Then after lunch they forecasted clear sunny skies with a
high around 60.................NOT!!!.... and I mean NOT BIG TIME.
Yes it was in the 40's when we left out of Atlanta
Motor World. Seven Bikes. Ten riders. No cars. But, it went downhill
from there. It never did warm up. In fact I believe it got a little
cooler as the day went on. It was overcast all day, windy and nary a
sunbeam broke through. Actually, heading home we did see sun on the road
ahead, but by the time we got there it was gone.
But you know what? Despite the fact that they really
pooched the forecast...it was a GREAT day. We had a good ride, some
fantastic food, and shared time with some good friends. Yes, the ride
was a little cooler than we hoped, but it was a ride and it was on two
wheels not four. The food....what can I say...it was Gumbeaux's. It was
hot, there was plenty of it and it was delicious. Most importantly, the
fellowship of good friends and extended family make it all worthwhile.
In years past, our trip to Gumbeaux's was always met
with nice weather and after a good meal, we normally head out to ride.
This year, it was just too chilly to do that and we basically plotted
the shortest route home and headed in that direction. Those of us headed
over the north/northwest side of town stayed together as long as we
could. In fact we even stopped for some warm drink and ice
cream...YES...I said ice cream...but we did drink coffee.
All in all, it was a good day. I would do it all over
again in a heartbeat. Not too much beats riding and eating with family
and friends....even in cold weather.
