February 10, 2008 The
Great American Motorcycle Show at the Trade Center in Norcross is an annual
event. Each year the chapter attends the event. This show is a lot
different than the IMS Show. IMS is all about new bikes and what's
available on the market. GAMS is a "buy it here" show with everything
from new bikes to used bikes to leathers, to boots, to jewelry to
insurance. If it pertains to a bike, there is probably a vendor selling
it.
We met for breakfast at Southern Skillet. This has
been our tradition for the last three years. A few riders actually
showed up on their bikes. The majority of us opted for the four wheeled
vehicles. Having had some sort of cold since Christmas, I didn't want to
risk the return of the crud. The real riding season is just around the
corner and we want to be healthy and ready to ride.
After breakfast we headed on over to the show. It was
pretty much the same as it has been for the last several years. There
were plenty of vendors. We systematically explored the rows checking out
the things that were of interest. The boys checked out the bike stuff
and the girls seemed to migrate to the jewelry and clothing. Turnout
seemed good as the floor was pretty crowed with people checking it out.
The weather outside was sunny and in the sixties with a pretty good
breeze. I think that helped the attendance a lot.
I don't think anyone spent much money. We picked up a
lot of brochures and flyers and looked at a lot of stuff, but in the end
went home empty handed.
It was a good show and helped get the riding juices
flowing after what seems like an eternity without a good ride. Everyone
is pretty much itching to hit the road and ride.
The next event is a riding event (and eating event).
The ride from the dealer in Roswell to Gumbeaux's in Douglasville is
always a good one. Its not to long, but long enough to be a real ride.
Usually the weather co-operates and makes for a nice day. We will hope
that this year is no different. Hope to see you then.
