July 26, 2008 We met at AMW at 8:30 and
left for the ride at 9:00. With a lot of the group in Rogers, Ark. for
Star Days, the turnout was pretty good. Seven riders and one passenger
including one new rider – Marty Howard attended. The weather was partly
sunny and somewhat cool. A few sprinkles here, a few sprinkles there and
sometimes a few sprinkles everywhere. We headed west toward Canton and
stopped in Waleska to make sure there were no bathroom or gas needs
since we would not see civilization for a couple hours. Quite a few
twisties, up and down hills and we ventured on the west side of Carters
Lake. As we turned toward the east and Ellijay we encountered our first
bout of raindrops. Approx. 17 miles from Ellijay we stopped and a couple
people brought out the rain gear including Georges who sported a brand
new suit and waterproof boots after the ride to Wet (Hot) Springs two
weeks ago. We then rode to Ellijay and had lunch at the Cajun Depot
which accommodated us very well. After lunch two riders had to head back
for some scheduled activities. The rest of us went North to Blue Ridge
and stopped for gas. At that time the rest of us pulled out the rain
gear. From there we decided to head to Blairsville to pick up Hwy 19. At
certain times it looked like a really bad decision since the rain
started. Luckily, just outside Blairsville it stopped and we enjoyed our
ride over Blood Mountain and on to Dahlonega. We stopped in Dahlonega
and said our good byes and most got home about 4:00. All in all the ride
was great and the weather cooperated
