May 6, 2007 We have a
history of planning picnic and having either cold or wet weather...and
sometimes both. This year we managed to break that trend and had a
beautiful day for the picnic. Leaving home the temps were in the 60's
with some overcast skies. By the time the grill was fired up it was
pushing 80 and it was a bright sunny day.
This was a multi-chapter event. All the chapters in
Georgia had been invited. Attendance was good with members of
Cartersville, Fayetteville, and Stone Mountain joining us. Rick
Campbell, president of the Cartersville chapter provided the grill and
did most of the cooking. We had burgers and hotdogs, a great homemade
pasta salad provided by Cindy Pierce, chips and dip, ice cold drinks and
to finish it all off we had some Twinkies and Ding Dongs (most without
filling). You can ask Maria about the Ding Dong with no filling.
After lunch Rick Campbell led a group on a ride
through the northwest Georgia countryside. We went through Cartersville,
up to Rome and back down to Red Top. It was a beautiful route and was
very enjoyable and relaxing. The weather was great, not too hot and not
too cool. A couple clouds floated by with a very slight threat of rain,
but by the time we got back to Red Top it was once again bright and
sunny.
After arriving back at the pavilion we just sat around
and talked for a while. We renewed old acquaintances and make some new
ones. We talked bikes, chapter business and just life in general. We cut
up and laughed so hard it would bring tears to our eyes. It was a good
time.
If you missed the picnic, we hope to see you in Macon.
Memorial day weekend is going to be great. Make plans to be there. If
you were there last year, you know it will be a memorable experience.
Bubba Nogate will be there along with Fallen Angel and a host of other
supporting characters.
