12, 2007 Our first ride since Star Days turned out to be a
scorcher. The weather for the month of August has set heat records and
today was one of those days. It was already pretty warm when we pulled
out of AMW and headed north. Our destination was Elberton, GA and the
Red Minnow Fish House. The turnout was decent with 9 bikes and 14
riders. Elberton is a couple hour ride and required a break about
halfway for refreshment.
Once at the restaurant we were grateful for the cool air. This was a
buffet style restaurant with lots of good homemade country style food.
They had everything from fried chicken to fried shrimp and lots of good
veggies. There was a large selection of deserts for those of us who had
saved a little room. Of course I guess everyone could have followed one
riders lead and had a huge mound of mashed potatoes and multiple slices
of ham as desert. It was all washed down with several glasses of sweet
and cold iced tea.
Once everyone managed to roll out the door and get back on the bikes
we headed home. It was really hot now in the afternoon sun. The ride
home was pretty uneventful other than the heat. We made a couple stops
for liquid refreshment, but basically made a bee-line for home.
