April 28, 2007 This week,
the weather made up for the last ride. Anytime you can leave home at
9:30 in the morning on a bike in a short sleeve shirt its gonna be a
good day. The forecasters warned of a chance of rain, but in the morning
there wasn't a clould in the sky.
The turnout was good. Considering it was a Saturday
and some people have to earn a living on that day, we had a good group.
There were nine members of 111 present and three members of 314 (Stone
Mountain) who joined us.
The ride over to Douglasville was nice. Traffic was a
little heavy and there were a few more traffic lights than we like, but
it was such a beautiful day, it didn't really matter. It took a little
over an hour to make our way to Gumbeaux's, so by the time we got there
everyone was hungry....and that was a good thing!!
Gumbeaux's has the best cajun food outside of New
Orleans and they do not skimp on the portions. Everyone had more than
they could eat and a lot of food went home. The problem was....it was so
good you couldn't stop eating until you were about to bust. Just getting
up from the table when we were done was a chore...much less lifting your
leg over a bike.
After we all managed to get up and get outside we
stood around an talked a bit before "jumping" on the bikes. After some
laughs and goodbyes and hugs we all headed towards home, each going our
own direction.
Once I got on the bike and settled into the seat, the
ride home was great. The temp was up around 80, the sun was out and I
have a little sunburn to prove it. As we headed home a few clouds showed
up and a couple even darken with the threat of rain, but not a drop
fell. It had been a great day to ride and to share time with our STAR
family.
Hopefully those who were missing this week will be
there next time.
