November 12, 2006 For the
second ride in a row we had a chilly morning. The big difference was the
turnout. This time we had a lot of people show up. By 10:00, when we
departed, we had 11 bikes and 15 riders. Even though it was rather cool,
the forecast for the day was sunny and warming. With that in mind, we
decided to amble up Hwy 9 and then cut across to Dillard to eat at the
Dillard House.
I guess you could say we really took the long way
around to get there. I think many of us rode on roads we had never been
on before. It was a very scenic ride at a nice leisurely pace. We made
one coffee/bathroom break in Dawsonville. About an hour and a half later
were were waiting on a table at the Dillard House. Everyone commented on
how enjoyable the ride was.
By the time we arrived at Dillard House, they heaviest
part of the Sunday lunch rush was over. (But they were still busy). It
took about thirty minutes to get a table, which isn't too bad for a big
group on Sunday. The wait was well worth it. The food was excellent and
plentiful as usual. We asked if they could provide a few beds or cots or
something for a nap, but they declined. Other than that....it was
perfect.
This ride was also meant to be a business meeting.
During dinner, it was decided that the Christmas party would be help at
Gary and Maria's house again this year. The date is December 9th. An
email will be going out soon with more details. After dinner we opened
the floor to officer nominations. There were no changes suggested.
Confirmation of the current officers will take place at the Christmas
Party on December 9. Finally, we discussed what we wanted to do for our
next scheduled ride, which is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It was
decided that we will try to do some kind of get-together on that date.
It may be a short ride, or just a meal together. Details will be sent
out soon.
With our bellies full and our business completed, we
realized that it was almost 4:00 pm. The sun was sinking fast, and with
it the temperature. With most people wanting to get headed home, it was
reluctantly decided not to go to Tallulah Falls State Park. So, everyone
said their goodbyes and we headed home. As we got closer to home the
group got smaller and smaller as riders dropped off onto the route that
would put them in their driveways.
Even though we never made our ultimate
destination.....As always....Those who missed this ride, missed a great ride, great
weather, fantastic food, and most importantly good friends.
Be sure to be there next time.....you never know what
you might miss.....
