August 13, 2006 An early start and
some beautiful weather may have helped, but whatever the reason, we had
a good turnout for the ride to Brasstown Bald. Curvy roads and fantastic
scenery led us to Rib Country in Blairsville for some good eatin'. After
filling our stomachs with some really good food we managed to talk
ourselves into skipping the nap we all wanted to take and heading out
for the bald. Some more great roads got us to the park. Being basically
a lazy bunch we decided to take the shuttle to the top rather than walk
the .6 miles up. Once at the top, the view was fantastic. Although it
was a little cloudy you could still see for miles and miles. We spent a
while just taking in the view and getting a little education in the
visitor's center. Bet you didn't know that the highest recorded
temperature ever on the top of Brasstown Bald is 84 degrees!!
This proves that making the chapter rides not only relaxes you,
and builds friendships, but also makes you smarter!
Finally we headed back down the mountain (a few of us decided to
walk DOWN). Arriving at the bikes we saddled up and headed back towards
home. Making a final stop about half way we said our goodbyes and made
the final leg home.
It was a great day, a great ride, good food and a wonderful time
with the Star family.
I say it every time, but....Those who missed this ride, missed a great ride, great
weather, fantastic food, and most importantly good friends.
Be sure to be there next time.....you don't want to
miss out.....
